Parrot Head

Backyard Brissie oz

Breaking the rule of thirds.........
.......Nay smashing them to smitherines even:-)
It's not easy to make this rule shattering picy work but my passion to make a statement
carried me onward & upward to achieve a memorable final picy as confirmed by none other than Mikey of Pending fame:-) I had to search not only for a parrot but the surroundings had to be perfect as well to undergo the scrutiny of our beloved host Lonnit. So with due diligence I found the perfect spot to juxtapose wiv a parrot. I found these two leaves that had curled ends the same shape as the parrots beak, as soon as I saw them I knew they would be needed to make my smashing of the rule of thirds a resounding success. After waiting six hours in the tropical sun & me bald head looking like an over ripe rock melon a parrot landed in just the right spot.Me passion juices started to flow, the creativity welled up in me like a tsunami & I got one shot, one perfect shot wiv the parrots head in the bottom right corner & the beak mimicking leaves working to take this picy to another level & away from Pending................I hope:-)

I love this photo and think you should work on coming up with an idea. Maybe no green on green is a rule? (it creates a kind of visual hardness, don't you think?)
Or maybe the pointy leaf is a distraction? (I think it is, of sorts)

Didn't say I didn't like it - just said it was unqualified. He claimed that he broke the rule of thirds, but he didn't. That makes it unqulified. :( ~ Lonnit

Sh*t, Rod. I really like this picy, too. Too bad "she" didn't. Save it for a future Exhibition gallery. Cheers, -mikey

Ok, I see what you're saying about the mimic of the curved hook. I don't see why you needed to break compositional rules in order to display this interesting relationship. Maybe, just maybe, the hooks of the leaves create a curve that leads us to the bird, but that's a stretch. You would be right to use leading lines as an excuse to break the rule of thirds, however, you did not use them to lead us to the bird intentionally, you claim you included them merely for repetition of shape. Now, let's talk rule of thirds. Not only did you not smash it to smitherines, you actually did a somewhat good job of adhering to it! you bird extends precisely to the right line of thirds. Its eye falls directly upon the lower line of thirds. Your right leaf runs smack dab right through the upper right intersection of thirds, in fact, clinging so tenaciously to it, that it hooks round it! Your left leaf's right edge runs quite close to the left line of thirds. My darlin', this image is therefor unqualified! ~ Lonnit

Thanks Mikey:-) Even though I value your comment highly I just can't relax until Lonnit has stormed through & passed judgement. Can you give me some advice on how to get out of Pending??:-)
It's funny how you envy the birds in our backyard & I envy you your mountains. The worlds really nice if we look a:-)
