Speeding Through Deception Pass

Deception Pass, Puget Sound, WA

Rule Broken: “Have your subject entering the scene.”
Works Because: The action spot within the image is not so much the boat, but rather the “rooster tail,” the water splashing behind the boat.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6
1/400s f/7.1 at 300.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Disqualified! You state "have your subject entering the scene". You clearly then go on to state that your subject is the rooster tail. The rooster tail is clearly entering the scene. The boat, however, which isn't your subject anyway, isn't, so it doesn't matter, nor does it qualify! Good use of the rule of thirds to draw us into your subject. Good use of the brightest part of the image being your subject. :) ~ Lonnit
