Changing Skyline

W 40th St, NYC

The crane marks the start of construction of a 50 story tower that will obscure this view of my favorite midtown building. This image is also the start of using RAW files in newly acquired Photoshop Elements 6.0 with Camera Raw built in - easier and more powerful than Canon's Zoom Browser RAW conversion.

Canon PowerShot S70
1/1000s f/3.5 at 7.3mm iso50 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Tv, forgot to ask. Do you know the name of the building in the fore front? is it part of the taller tower behind it?

Oh and have you seen the new IAC building right on the west side highway?
http://iacbuilding.com/interactive/content.html . The glass siding looks very cool. Should be a wonderful site with some snow cover on the ground.

I really like both shots but the way the crane frames the buildings is what made this special for me.
What a pitty that we'll be losing the view of the building there. I would love to see it in person. Good for us that at least you have shots of it.

Carole and Doug, I've haven't been using PS Elements until I found the current version 6.0 included Camera Raw and Distortion Adjustment that are not in my Photoshop 7.0. But this version of PS Elements has what I use most in PS 7 at a fraction of the price of CS2. Only comment so far is that it is a big program and grabs gobs of memory. Camera Raw is great and recognizes all kinds of Raw files.
Thanks Rod for giving a name to the "jib" of the crane. -tv

Good topic choice. It looks like your new view might be interesting. John

The construction may ruin your scenery but in the mean time could make for a neat daily picture documentary. Haven't tried Elements but I use Lightroom on a regular basis. -COAmature

Good one Tom and I'm sorry to hear you will lose your view of those great looking buildings. I will be upgrading to Elements 6 and may actually break down and try shooting RAW too! How do you like 6.0 and working with RAW files? :-) CJ

Yes this does work well & I love the way the plane trail crosses the the crane jib (Aussie Favco crane too) Nicely done Tommy.
