Kelly, this shot is absolutely fantastic! Of the three, which are all wonderful, this is my favorite. I was up in the observation tower of this bridge in Sept. and took quite a few pictures but none of mine came out as wonderful as yours. I especially loved the older bridge right along side this new one. Really good work! ~Sharon PS. I also wanted to say that I am very happy to have you back with us. You were doing some really interesting shots of protests when I first joined the competitions two and half years ago and I really appreciated your work then. Welcome back! ~Sharon

excellent abstract pic Kelly. even the blue gradation in the sky 'coz of the polarizer enhances the beauty of this simple and clean abstract architecture shot. -Abstract

What a great series Kelly - I like them all! You've created some wonderful abstracts out of a mundane subject like this bridge - inspires me to look more closely at my own environment! :-) CJ

Thank you Rod and TomD for your kind words. - Kelly

PS. The wideish borders seemed fine on the b&W but I found it a bit distracting on this colour picy. They seem quite bright for colour.

It's funny I really like the shadows as is, I think they add just a touch of tension that a nice looking picy like this needs. You did a fantastic job of getting three such different picys from the one structure. Great work, well done.

This is really cool Kelly. I like the sharpness & love the blue. Nice simple composition. Seeing the examples below gives me a sense of perspective. Understanding that, I like this shot all the more.
It could easily be seen as a walkway into space. (Dali'esk)

Thank you Vano, b.c. and J.V. for your kind remarks.

All three images are of the eastern face of the eastern column of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge connecting Hancock and Waldo Counties as viewed looking straight up from near the base of the column. The cylindrical structures are the massive hi-tech cables that support the bridge deck. All three photos in this series were taken just a few feet apart shortly after sunrise beneath an absolutely clear blue sky. Regardless of the time of day, the shadows cast by the cables would never be parallel because each of the 20 cables attach at different points along the bridge deck and radiate at differing angles from the column.

Cheers!

Kelly

I think this is my favorite of the three. I didn't notice the non-parallel shadows until I read Vano's comment. I really like the color of the sky, so if you do go make, use a polorizer or something so you can still get this color.

great symmetry and contrast. of your 3 shots, this one catches my eye first, but I do really like all 3 of yours together as a set exploring this structure from different points of views. very nice - b.c.

I know now why you said me to plumb up my columns ;-). I like the symmetry of your pics. Just to go back there when it's midday to have parallel shadows :-). - Vano
