Thanks for the interest in my pic, TomD & Rod.

TomD - Thanks and the eyebrows, as well as the black ear trim, are sex determinants in Mule deer. The does don't have these markings. Even when they've just lost their spots and don't have any antlers yet (yearling), you can tell the does from the (Groucho) bucks by these markings. See below:

Rod - I don't know what to tell your eyes. With all those trees and you can "only see the forest" and the buck... oh, well. ";^D You might be getting a bit confused about the topic, the forest and the trees.

Cheers, -mikey

Beautifully framed & focused. The colors are wonderful. Is there a purpose to the 'Groucho' eyebrows? (other than make him look mean)

I'm not that good Mikey you can't take my Eligible shots as examples, they're just successful or unsuccessful attempts at the topic like everyone else. I don't pick topics because I think I'm good at the topic. In the palm picy I attempted to make the dark stalks the leading lines from the bottom & obviously failed. To me a leading line must lead the eye into the shot upon first viewing we shouldn't have to analyse a picy to see if we can find some leading lines. In this shot my eyes go straight for the deer without the aid of any leading lines. I think the shot of the tree trunk & stag horns you posted in Exhibition works far better than this for the topic. But as always this is subjective & the other posters here can see the leading lines in this picy maybe it's just that I can't see the leading lines because of the forest:-)

No better way to hunt and the catch shows why. Maybe I'll move to CO after all. Excellent shot, and I think the vertical "leading" lines work even though they don't point, which is rude anyway.
John, you would have been Uniform Company champion at Ft Dix in Oct, 1965. Qualifying on a foggy morning, we could hardly make out the 300 ft targets. I got the trophy with only a 258, as I recall. -tv

Thanks for the comments, Sue Anne, Doug, John & Rod.

John - I stopped hunting many years ago, myself. This guy is a *medium* sized buck for our neighborhood, tho he is a fine specimen and did have five girlfriends along. He was big enough to handle himself against other bucks. To be honest, he was more interested in one of the does than he was in me. He only looked up at me a few times. I was hoping to catch them mating, but no such luck.

Rod - You gave me a chuckle, mate. You put up a shot of palm leaves going every which way, neither leading in, out, or to anything, presumably as an acceptable example of "leading lines", then you say to this shot, "not picking up the leading lines", ha! What are those trees that go in, out, to and thru the subject? LOL

Thanks again all for your kind words. You too Rod. Cheers, -mikey

Yes its a great shot but I'm not picking up the leading lines.

Magnificent shot of a magnificent animal, Mikey. Hunting with a Canon, I'm sure you still get the adrenaline rush of hearing a twig snap, the anticipation of the stalk and holding your breadth while you push the button. I used to love to go hunting with my dad because it was just me & dad (big family). Even though I scored 298 out of 300 in the record fire of basic training, I never hit anything living with a rifle ... probably psychological. Gave my rifles to my brothers after I returned from Vietnam. John
