Thanks all, since he is a local artist I see a lot of Chihuly stuff around town, as well as the man himself. He was right in front of me in a line to get movie tickets recently and I lost my appetite for popcorn after looking at what was in his unruly mass of hair ;-) His stuff can be impressive, though as Rod says it can all look much the same. This may be a result of what he is being commissioned to do for various venues. I think there is a Chihuly Museum or some such thing down in Tacoma I should see before deciding all the stuff he and his crew puts out looks the same. This particular chandelier was basically white in color CJ, but it has a slightly gold surface cast that collectively gives it the amber color toward the center. The thing must be a good ten to twelve feet in diameter- quite impressive as you walk in the door.

Dale Patrick Chihuly had a huge exhibit that came here to Dallas. I don't understand the slaves part unless you just mean the people that work for him. At the exhibit there was a bunch and I didn't feel like it was all the same -- guess he made sure to make all the many hundreds of pieces varied -- no cameras allowed. There was a small tunnel at the start that made you think you were walking at the bottom of the ocean.

Very nice shot Brent. My display case with the Friar is also handhold at 1/5s. Definite breathing technique here to keep these steady even with the IS. Really want to upgrade to the G9 from my SD800 since I think the 800 has too soft a focus for my taste. John

Wow - now that's a cluttered chandelier! Are those the real colors or is the amber look from shadows? CJ

Rod, you're pretty much right, I saw some in Colorado, & as Brent said, "Chihuly slaves" put them together in massive amounts.
Still, it's pretty & fun.

Its funny I haven't seen any of this Chihuly glass stuff meself but from the picys I've seen here it all looks a bit the same. As though once you've seen one installation you've seen the lot. None of which has any connection to this shot but I wondered why I was under whelmed by looking at Chihuly again.

Hand held is incredible. I was going to ask earlier where you could have positioned the tripod. Now I know. Still unbelievably sharp. -tv

Thanks guys :-) Yes, the first shot with the new G9 ( I was impressed with what Bruce has been doing with his). I've never had a camera with IS and was surprised to be able to do this handheld. I started out in these challenges using a G6 Tommy, and I know this won't replace my dSLR (especially in low light)- but it sure is easy to cart around.
This is one of two huge chandeliers built by Chihuly slaves for the Seattle Symphony Hall by the way.

Great find, Brent. Even as glass the cluttered, tentacle-like shapes create a an icky claustrophobic domain from this angle and crop. I think this is the first small sensor image from you. Extreme DOF is so much easier with it. I'm amazed that the 200 ISO if so free of noise. Looks like the G9 is a winner. -tv

Have no fear Brent Tommy will like it:-)
