hmmm, ok this is a very cool black/white shot. I really like the feel of it. The landscape question has me wondering? OK, are any of my shots eligible? It is just hard shooting inside a room including everything to me. Ok, thats why they call it a challeneg right. That said, this is a landscape of the upper part of a room isn't it? Yvonne

I like the B&W conversion here Mary Anne. I kind of wish I could see a little more bottom to gain a little more distance to the interior landscape, but this still works for me! :-) CJ

Let me try to make my point clear: an outdoor landscape is not a picture of the sky, right ? In an outdoor landscape the sky might almost fill the whole picture or just be a little strip or even absent. But the sky it is not the landscape. Similarly, in an indoor landscape, the ceiling may fill almost the whole picture or just a little portion of it. But a "ceiling of ..." picture is not an indoor landscape in much the same way as a "snow clouds pattern" picture is not an outdoor landscape. What I am trying to say is that what is off topic here is not necessarily the picture itself (which I like a lot, by the way) but its title: this should be something like Barnes & Noble Bookstore Mary Anne, shouldn't it ? Regards, Nicola

our host says it best:

The pictures should be *landscape* pictures: what I mean is that they should not portrait a person, a dog, a flower, a piece of furniture etc. *in a room*. Instead they should portrait *the room* itself. Of course, there might be persons, flowers, dogs and chairs in your pictures. However, these should be part of the landscape and not main subjects.

Mary Ann,
My two shots both have people in them. I like to think they add to the shots to give scale and more interest. I think a close up of someone reading would be OT, but a wide shot like you did below of an aisle of books, I think would be OnTopic. Just my two cents. I could be wrong.

Lee, your suggestion of a person reading in front of a row/rows of books is certainly more of the type of shot I would prefer. Maybe I'm misreading the challenge guidelines, but I thought the topic is focused more on "the room" itself or some aspect of the design/architecture of the place, and any people are kind of incidental.

Just a suggestion. Shoot someone sitting in an aisle reading a book. I think that would make a great interior shot. The rows of books and soneone reading quietly at the end. Just a thought ...

I did not think this was an architeture and interior design challenge.

The way it is now the hand rail works fine for me Mary Anne. As Rod mentioned, the tones are very nice here. Well done!

Well, I've done what I can, short of driving back to the store and waiting for people to show up, and it would be a bit tricky to get people AND the ceiling unless I were to shoot up through the railings from the first floor. This was shot from the quiet reading area on the second floor...not much action there. I'm having a hard time coming up with something for this challenge, so I just may try it again. Thanks for all the suggestions.

lovely!

The tones seem really nice in this shot & I agree that the hand rail would be better if it was level for this picy. This may have worked well with just the ceiling creating the landscape. The tones make it for me, well done Mary Anne.

The only thing that I find wrong with this is the fact that it's not quite level. The rail wouldn't bother me so much if it were. Maybe just rotate a little...

I would like to see more of the bottom of this pic... vs just the ceiling. Just a thought. jano

lovely ceiling, but the rail seems in the way. Would have loved to see people running around. B&N are always very busy everytime I go.
