Follow My Lead

Houston

The youngster on the left was getting her friends squared away for a Greek dance at the St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church Festival. The one in the middle kept a close eye on her, and these kids put on a nice show.

Nice scene and color * You could have opened your lens wider to blur background a bit more. And, is it tilted to the left or is it just me?

Thanks everyone for your comments nd suggestions. I have taken them all into account and have updated the image to its present state. Mainly, I have fixed up the WB and sharpened a little bit. The previous image is athttp://www.pbase.com/johncrossphotography/image/60390287 One thing that I have learned is that I would shoot raw if I needed to really fine tune an image in the future. If course that has its consequences in efficiency because my computer is slow. But I have learned my lesson for fine tuning and tweaking. BTW-I have found that putting the URL in for the previous image rather than inline has the advantage that you can flip between the images with the forward and back keys and keep the images in the same screen position. I think I will enjoy my favorite adult beverage now.

Very nice picture John and a great job clonning out the guy in the background! I'm not sure if this is in focus or if the slow shutter casused a bit of blur. Did you try a little contrast and USM on this? If you shoot wider open, as aam suggested, you'll get a faster shutter plus the added benefit of blurring the background a little more. I love the little girl in the middle! That red color really draws the eye. Good shot! :-) CJ

Ok, this is what I will write when voting for this pic...

Technically it stinks! But the interaction between these guys is so spontaneous it's beautiful. The look on the middle kid's face is sooo cute! Oh and the hat is cute too :)

Same as this name AT yahoo DOT com

Btw, it's related to white balance.

aam-I would like to know. How about an email address so we don't bore the members.

John, I have another headache for you. If interested let me know. Don't worry, your photo is still wonderful.

Good picture - much improved by the excellent use of cloning... and it's nice to be able to look at the original picture for a change, so often I read suggestions that are then acted on and I have missed or forgotten the original.

Btw, I meant "row" not "raw". We were having a discussion about raw format so I guess it spilled over :)

Thanks for the compliment. Here is the originalhttp://www.pbase.com/johncrossphotography/image/60395843
It is easy to do with lots of good cloning material around.

There was a guy in the second row you got rid of? My hat is off to your photoshop skills!
aam1234 18-May-2006 20:32
Tell me about it, I'm still at the P&S stage, or so it seems :(
jCross18-May-2006 20:06
Another good point. The transition from snapshots to photographs is a long trail.

Ok, next time use wider aperture if you want to isolate your subject, deal?
jCross18-May-2006 19:50
You make a very good point, and I am easy (but not cheap), so I got rid of the old man. It does look a lot better. Thanks very much for the critique!.

John, as I mentioned in David's entry, some people check out the background before the foreground/subject. What I mean is that the old guy in the second raw is a bit of a distraction, if you ask me. You have a wonderful photo, wish the timing was just a little different. I know, the old guy is dancing too, but he is still a distraction from the excellent "interaction' in the first raw.

Of course, that's just my opinion. Cheers mate.
