The Sweet Smell*

I haven't posted that many of these shots yet but I've been being doing a number of them still life against black bk. these days. This was my try at painting with light, that's why the long exposure. The light swoosh I think helped with the negative space.

Thanks for commenting :) I originally wanted to try this for the CSLR long exposure challenge, but I was just a tad too late to enter it. I guess you wonder why I pulled out the portrait, hard to explain but it's still one of my favorites and I thank everyone who commented. I did take Julian's advice, so tnx. Appreciate it :)

I like the color and composition of this! Very good definition on the carnation. The white "swish" symbolizes the "Sweet Smell." of the bloom. The thin red border pulls the color to the edge. Nice one, Andrew! Shu

I thought it was cigarette smoke above the flower. Who knew? You didn't do a bad job with teh comp and you've lighted your subject nicely in a way that gave it separation from the background, and that's good. Unfortunately, IMO Carnations are not very photogenic from a side view, no fault of yours of course :-)
