This was in the dark side of the moon challenge. Its my favourite of all the shots i've submitted over the past couple of months in both challenges. That i think says a lot about me.
Anyway, no more cows and over the next couple of weeks i'll really explore my own style.
I like your cows, Andy. And the absence of eyes does make it look more menacing - cows have such placid, calm eyes it might spoil the darkness of the shot ( believe it or not, a friend of mine was once told by a date that she had big, beautiful, warm eyes - like a cow....)
I think i like this because of the sky and the dumb pose of the cow. Plus it was my first ever challenge entry and got 2 votes. I was astounded that another of my entries came second and this faired worst overall of the three. This will remain a nostalgic shot for me. Eyes or no eyes. Theres no redundancy in commentationality, because i dnt know what it means. Besides, i love this shot and culd discuss it ad nauseum, or until the cows come home.............
I shuld clarify that in the dark side of the moon challenge, this was called "Lunatic in the grass", a line from one of the songs on the album, which was the challenge theme. As I pointed out at the time, it is very reminiscent of another Pink Floyd album cover, which is why i shot it in the first place.
I agree about the eyes and commented at the time that these cows need a flash to bring out the eye detail as the full DR was exceeded at both ends in this shot.
I thank you for your comments.

I like the image and I love dark images, although this doesn't really lean all that much into the dark side, but I must say, I would prefer if there were the slightest hint to the existance of the cow's eyes. It would complete the picture. The eyes are the windows to the soul. To eliminate the eyes from this shot is to eliminate the soul of the picture. ~ Lonnit
Yep! (The dark side of being a cow.) I share your interest in dark images since I believe they show much drama. Not everyone likes that style, but this challenge is about exploring one's ability to create very unique images with a personal touch. Your photo and commentary has covered both! Shu

I always liked this one too Andy with it's sinister feel of the eyeless cow. I shall miss the cows, perhaps you could have an unintrusive one as your signature?:>)
