Eggnormous *

I found out eggs are not that easy for me to photograph - this is the best so far after a day of hard work. Comments welcome!

Thanks Andy. And I don't mind difficult challenges at all as long as I come up with ideas! I actually picked an egg that had some "character" to it, thus the markings on the egg. The background was strategically staged to bring life to the egg as though there was activity going on. The DOF was difficult to capture given the whiteness of the egg and the focus/sharpness I wanted to create with the egg itself. I do appreciate all the comments and suggestions and hopefully can improve in the future. jstrong

Where on earth did you get that ostrich egg from? Im reporting you to the RSPCA or equivalent in your state or territory. Abs comments are valid but i think youve really got the disproportion thingy working for you here.

Abs, there shouldn't be easy challenges, right? It would be a contradiction. I also find it difficult, and that makes it so interesting. ;-)

jstrong, no need to apologize. i did not misunderstand your comment. infact your attempt, with an excellent result at that, to get a shot in eligible clearly shows you like the topic.
i am sorry, my "taking positively" words give you wrong impression. -Abstract

I'm sorry if my comment "This is truly a difficult challenge" was misconstrued as I did mean it positively. Difficult in that... makes me think (hard on a weekend lol), challenges my skill (trying to get some!), and the perspective is unique. Now, back to my camera... jstrong

cool shot jstrong. i second Mary Ann's suggestion. this concept has a lot of potential. just get camera a little lower and egg's size would increase tremendously. -Abstract
"This is truly a difficult challenge!"
i hope you and all other posters take it positively. the reason for selecting the topic is, i love this kind of shots and would definitely learn a lot of new ways/tricks to get better shots from other experienced posters here.

Thanks for the comments. I do have some shots with the small aperature but the egg itself was not in focus as I would like. This is truly a difficult challenge! jstrong

Nice shot. I agree with Mary Ann, maybe putting just one egg in the background... I struggled with the focal range also today, use the smallest possible aperture, but since the egg is so close to the lense, that's though or even impossible.

I like your title and the concept, but I think you have to get rid of the busy background and find some way to eliminate the surface of the table. Maybe you could place the egg on top of something so that it's not so obvious that this is simply an egg that looks big because it is closer to the camera. Also, be sure to use the smallest aperture you can for greater depth of field.
