you're right. the 45deg shows less veining... but i do like it. i like this one too. the overalll effect is quite stunning... either way. dorys

Hi Dorys :-) For comparison, I re-uploaded the 1st original put up. About tilting the photo 45degress, I suppose it would be make it more minimal than complex since less of the main arteries would be seen http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/image/34794880)but I sort of like the one above for this challenge. Though both photos are the the same exact photo.

how about tilting it 45 degs? i think that might satisfy lonnit's need for irregularity as well as mine for some regularity. (what did i just say?) LOL

I haven't seen the original tilted version (supposing this one is the levelled one) but I think I would have preferred it. For this version I wholly agree with Lonnit's comment. For the levelled version I would like the horizontal line being slightly more up or down from the center. NOW you have something to think about :-) What a great photo though. Tomas

a real eyecatcher :)
PhotoNUT 15-Nov-2004 05:46
Lonnit, we are only talking about slighlty over one degree rotation here. Just my opinoin..

; )

I thought I'd come back and give it a fresh view. Ok. What I am finding is that where before my eyes loved roaming it, now they are drawn directly to the line and stay there, sliding back and forth in the center 25%, unable to leave the line. I seem stuck to it and can't naturally drift away from center. Can you feel that? ~ Lonnit

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts everyone. Lonnit's anaylisis is very interesting, I must admit the unstraightened vine did not bother me, I liked the composition more. Tilting the photo forced me to crop more of the detail on the right side. Reminds me of how everyone focuses on having a straight horizon maybe doesn't apply to all kinds of photos? I'll ponder which one I'll leave in.

Techo, I like it! I keep forgetting to play with vivid effects on my camera. I think I will start and play with those settings from now on.

Thanks for exif and Photoshop work info.

Re: Level of Leaf
It’s up to you, to me, it looks better level, however, this photo will be getting my vote, level or not level. You have a creative eye, Good job!
ctfchallenge14-Nov-2004 05:27
To be totally honest, I really preferred it unrotated; gave it more character. Rules are meant to be broken. The fact that it's on the halfway point, it mellows the picture. The tilt gave it more interesting tension, flow, and movement. The perfect level, in the middle, is hum-drumming it. To me it was flawless as it was. Please consider returning it to the original. I had no doubt at all that I was voting for it then. :) ~ Lonnit

Thanks for everyone's comments. Thanks theFly , breezebrowser works swell :-) but pbase doesn't show the exif data even because the 1st upload didn't. So I'll post the exif seperately. Oh and I rotated the pic and cropped it.
ctfchallenge13-Nov-2004 17:17
Nice work Tech. BreezeBrowser will allow you to copy the EXIF data. theFly

Waw, love it. And agree with Lonnit about the dimension(s).
ctfchallenge13-Nov-2004 05:04
A beautiful shot that shows incredible dimension for something that is actually so thin! Art! ~ Lonnit

The darkness around the veins look fantastic, well done Techo

The Avacado Leaf was held up against a bright window. For Photoshop details, levels, a little shadows revealed using the "Shadow/Highlight" dialog but wasn't absolutely nessacery, resize and unsharpen mask.
Techo 13-Nov-2004 03:43
Hello :-)

Yes folks you are right. I'll correct the photo tommorow. Too tired at the moment. PhotoNUT, I was planning on including the exif, no worries will do. For this photo I didn't use "Save As" but "Save For Web" , it offers more flexibility with how much % compression it uses, didn't want to compress this one too much, so less detail would be lost. I was trying to find an exif program that I could use to import exif data from another photo but no luck. Or perhaps knows of a program from Canon that I can use that will read the exif, so the exif will interpret the settings like shown in the camera's settings.
PhotoNUT 13-Nov-2004 02:08
Techo, I agree with Dorys.

In Photoshop, you can try "Rotate Canvas Arbitrary" 1.2 degrees clockwise, and the vein should be level. To me it would look better level, and remember, it’s just an opinion. You have a beautiful shot there no mater what you do to it.

Since we have the same camera, can you please post your exif data, and Photoshop work? You don’t have to, but, I am always interested to see what was done to shots taken with the same cameras I own.

i like this a lot techo. i like how the black frame brings out the dark areas of the veins. i can't be feel a little off because the horizontal main vein is not perfectly horizontal. can you rotate it a tad?
