Where is the EXIF data?

How do I upload the EXIF data?

This questions comes up almost every challenge. Some pictures have EXIF data listed and some do not. Why? The simple fact is that you can not upload EXIF data after the fact. It must be incorporated with the original image when first uploaded.

In using the Photoshop family of Programs there are two ways to save an image:

"Save for Web..." - strips the EXIF data from the file and saves only the image. When uploaded the EXIF link will not be there.

"Save as..." - keeps the Exif data with the file. When uploaded, PBase.com sees that there is EXIF data, tables that data and automagically creates a link to it.

What about other software. Perhaps those in the know can add to this FAQ page.

Remember...

The EXIF data occupies space in your picture file. If you're pushing the 150K limit you may want those extra bytes dedicated to image and not data. Here's a little trick I've used in the past.

I'll save two copies of a picture, one with EXIF data and one without. For my original upload I use the picture with EXIF data. PBase tables that and make a link to it. Then I'll update the image using the EXIFless picture. I reduce the bytes and PBase keeps the EXIF data and the link to it.

Opanda's PowerExif Editor is an excellent utility for Exif data. Extract Exif data out and save it as .exif file. The file is also imported into another image file.
