Thanks Tommy and Mark :-) Debi, you can find the camera profiles in ACR by clicking on the upper right tab with the little camera icon (camera profiles). You can then find a drop down menu for various profiles (ACR using the Adobe profile by default and it is often the best for me). This was done with "camera standard" which is Adobe's attempt to mimic Canon's "standard" profile in DPP. Be careful using "camera landscape" as it sometimes adds too much punch to certain colors as it would have here.

"camera landscape" profile in ACR - where do I find these settings in ACR? - Debi

The sunspot is smack dab in the middle and I like the image overall tone. Markjay

I was wondering what new takes on the topic we might see and this is a good one - convincing at center stage. -tv

Thanks Carole :-) Yeah I think the newer versions of Canon IS are able to "sense" when they are on a tripod, but they recommend you still turn off the IS when using one to conserve your battery. In practicality I don't think the newer IS is all that smart as I have on occasion forgotten to turn it off when using a tripod and a few of the images turned out pretty funky like they were being held like a meth addict :-)

Beautiful sunset shot and the light on the water is really gorgeous and the marina jutting into the harbor makes this even more interesting! Good shot Brent! Do you have to turn off the IS when this lens is on a tripod? Some of the older IS lenses, like my 70-300mm, do not work on a tripod. I don't know what they changed, but I think for the newer ones it doesn't matter whether you switch it off or not. CJ

Gee, thanks guys :-) You know it's funny, I thought we might have a decent sunset so grabbed both the dogs and put my photo backpack and tripod on my shoulders and off to the viewpoint I went. I ended up using none of the tripod mounted images I got after getting in place and the dogs settled. Instead the best I got before the clouds got too thick was this shot captured one handed with gear on my back and two dogs tugging on leashes- image stabilization is a wonderful thing :-)
No CPL used here Debi as it would have decreased the reflection on the water. The overall color got a little too wild trying the "camera landscape" profile in ACR so I used a more tame "camera standard" profile and did get a little nicer blue (more similar to what I saw) by increasing the saturation and decreasing the luminance a little in the blue and aqua color channels.

Beautiful-how do get these blues , are you using a CPL? - Debi

You can't get any more slap dab than this picy & it would be really hard to get a better picy a. The colour tones look superb here & the exposure is spot on. Look how nice the darkness of the marina with the golden light intermingled compliments the rest of the picy. How could anyone think of using HDR when we can get results like this.............Well maybe they can't so they use HDR:-)

Nice one! Gorgeous silhouette balances the blues and I love the golden reflection of the sun. Penny Street
