It's killing me that the ear bud is not in focus because you have posted a photo that is doing an excellent job of bringing the eye to the center of the image... despite any sharp focus on the ear but. What makes the ear bud feel really dead center is the cord driving the eye to the center of the image :-) I know this was not photographed with the intent for this challenge but it happens to work for centered. Carole, thanks but I really think it's as good as I can make it and really, it is what it is - a snapshot that almost made it, but not quite.I can live with that. Penny Street

Penny, with the magic of selective PP, you could adjust the contrast, levels and USM just on the earbud alone if you wanted - just a thought! It's a good picture and it certainly is in the middle. :-D CJ

thanks Doug and Carole (I didn't forget about you). Penny Street

Even with the missed focal point the ear bud is dominant enough for us to see it as the subject. -Doug

No worries medear, I like feisty girls:-)

It's technically flawed. I know it, Rod. I knew it when I posted it. Sorry if I sounded offended - it was my reaction to your being so quick to pick it up that was talking. And yes of course I want to learn from you!! Penny Street

Oh dear, a woman scorned. You can say all you like about the reasons why a picy didn't quite work out but what has that got to do with what we're looking at. This picy has been put here for us to critique without knowing what circumstances it's been shot under & as for your dramatic statement about switching to manual focus seems like a kneejerk response to you not wanting to know the truth. We are all here to learn & using your centre focus point on his ear is something you might like to learn.

Penny, I don't think it matters whether you're in M, Av, or Tv mode for focusing on the earbud itself if you are using the center focus point. These were difficult shooting circumstances using a big telephoto lens for this closeup shot. Focusing is difficult when everyone's moving. Good effort though! CJ

Sorry Rod - next time when I'm standing right next to a guy and he's waiting for the light to change and I'm standing there holding my camera up, ready to shoot something else but then I turn and see a green thing in his ear that has wonderful possibilities for a great middle picy I'll remember to change to manual focus and get it right. So - I thought it was pretty good, under the circumstances. Penny Street

Wot a shame Penny you have just missed the focus on the bud, it's just before the DOF. Where did you have your focus point? The bottom 2/3rds of the wire & his cheek look nice & sharp.
