On February 19th, Rahil and his Dad flew to Bangalore to meet his Mom, who was already there. While Mom worked, Rahil played.
On the 20th, Rahil and Dad went to Cubbon Park in central Banglaore, stopping first at the aquarium and then playing in the massive play area called Bal Bhavan, replete with swings, slides, jungle gyms, a castle, and even a 1-km kids' train. There was a storytelling festival going on at the time, so Rahil stopped in and listened to some tales.
On the 21st, Rahil traveled by car to Kabini, outside of Mysore, a five-hour trip. He stopped first at Srirangapatna, home to the renowned Tipu, the Lion of Mysore, before arriving at the Cicada Lodge in Kabini, situated on the banks of the Cauvery River. After swimming and exploring, Rahil took a safari boat ride in the late afternoon, spotting more deer than he could possibly throw pebbles from the boat at (including spotted deer and sambar), several families of wild boar, a herd of enormous gaur, a crocodile, four wild elephants, and a couple dozen species of birds, including a jungle fowl. At night he sat by a campfire.
On the 22nd, Rahil got up early and explored the shoreline, discovering an astonishing number of spider webs, each of which had to be commented upon. After breakfast, he drove to the Royal Orchid hotel at Brindavan Gardens in Mysore, after which he toured both the spectacular (and modern) Mysore Palace during the afternoon and the Gardens, with their innumerable illuminated fountains, at night.
On the 23rd, Rahil visited the local aquarium, walked on the foot bridge below the massive Krishnaraja Sagar dam, examined all the cement animals in the kids' park, and played a game of chess with giant pieces behind the hotel, all before packing up and heading back to Bangalore to catch an evening flight.
