One of my favorites was the garage manager talking to the guy whose car was in the shop. " The men have decided, sir, that your car has an evil spirit; we've sent for a priest."

Or ... same garage manager: " Well, sir, if this car was your wife, which it isn't, of course, but if it was, then I'd say, sir that your wife is going to need a valve job."

There's a great one of the deranged homeless guy with his frenzied cat leaning out of an ashcan speaking to a passerby, "Financially speaking, we've been on the decline, but spiritually we're doing much better, thank you." We had it on our various kitchen walls for years and now it's lost. Don't know how to find it.

I don't recall that one off the top of my head, but your description is so good that I can enjoy it just from hearing you mention it. George turned 80 about two months ago.

There's a George Booth cartoon that seems a signature comment on the human condition. A skinny guy with a thousand mile stare sits on a front porch in, say, rural Arkansas, and alongside sits this shorthaired dog that seems to have a fishbone stuck in his throat. No caption is offered needed.

George and I attended night classes at the CAFA (Chicago Academy of Fine Arts) together. I knew then he would become an outstanding cartoonist altho it took some years. I have most of his cartoons as printed in the New Yorker but alas no originals.
His cartoons always laugh makers.
