Aged concept

This is a now disused drive in theatre in Johannesburg built on top of THE original gold mine "dump" from the early gold mining days that built the city.

Surround sound, flat screens, DVD's have all but killed the concept with only one functioning cinema left in the city.

I think many of us have fond memories as kids / teenagers from the heyday of drive in theatres ;-)

I'm glad you said this was an old drive-in as I probably wouldn't have known that this was more than just and old building! :-) I have fond memories of drive-ins and not just from dating! It was a great place to take the babies/children when we were a young married couple and couldn't afford baby sitters. There are still about 30 operating drive-ins in CA but we haven't been to one in a long time. :-) CJ

Thanks for commenting Bob. Yes I did sprawl myself on the ground as I couldn't get the undulations of the surface so getting down on my (not inconsiderable) belly I managed to get the crumbling tarmac and the grass growing out of it to get a feel for the "agedness" of the scene. Michael
