Jim - I think the "double exposure" look is coming from the end-of-travel of the wing stroke. The wing "stopped" briefly in both places. Cheers, -mikey

I like this image. I really don't understand how it was made because the near bird seems to have two separate exposures (one with the wing up and one with the wing down) . I do see that the EXIF does show a shutter speed of less then 1/2 second but that still would not have made a double exposure.

Who would have thought shooting birds at such a slow shutter speed would have worked.. I'm still staring incredulously. The effect on the wings is beautiful with irridescent colors and articulated extremes of the flapping cycle. Awesome catch. -tv

Spectacular... fantastic... crazy beautiful... I can hardly think of a word of praise that has not been used here already - and well deserved! Super image indeed. Regards Nico

Thank you Mikey, Penny, Cat and mcbit for your gracious comments. These are 'Sulphur Crested Cockatoos' and they descend upon this area at dusk screeching and making such a din.

I waited in ambush and fired off a bunch of shots hoping to catch a usable pic. Most were just too OOF but this one seemed to work? ~ Regards Bob

This is fantastic! Bob!
A fine example of the surreal effect slows shutter speed produces. The amazing light and the background sky adds a very beautiful charm to the composition.
I got to try this now!
