Thanks Barry, You asked about the "hunt". I went out this day to try to get an in-flight bald eagle picture that I have been trying to get for years. I waited in a small opening in the trees with a river view for about an hour. When they are hunting for fish they will fly up and down the river. Then this eagle stopped by for lunch, ate lunch and then left. It brought it's own fish but I did not see where he caught it. It was about 100 ft. from me in a tree. I do have a few other pictures of the eagle eating it's fish. Ill post a link to them when anonymity is not a concern. I still haven't got a good close up in-flight picture.

Eagles come here every year during the last part of December and January when the salmon are spawning.

Excellent image! Never did any 'birding' myself, this shot definitely inspires me to give it a try- would love to hear the details of your 'hunt' - Barry

Around round of applause from my side: Wow, I like this very much. I have never even seen one of these magnificent birds "for real", let alone got close enough to capture on camera. If I had to change anything, I would have been soooo tempted to clone out those small green leaves on the bottom edge on the black feathers. :-) Regards Nico

I'm drooling over this one... just wonderful. I never get this close even though I try. Like I said, just wonderful! Ann

I keep looking at this and I'm amazed by the detail, the dynamic range of the light, the perfect bokeh. It's an excellent picture on a lot of different levels. The only thing that bugs me is the crop and I don't have a suggestion that might make it better. I think it's just a bit out of balance. It's still a challenge winner.

Which goes to prove that if you shoot it often enough, eventually you'll get it right.

This could not be better...no flaws at all...and a 500mm lens? I didn't think that you had one of those....did you rent one? Just Curious...Betty Boop

Simply fantastic... it puts all the bird photographs in my own portfolio look rather amateurish and it makes all the lollipop pics... well... it makes them... suck. :-)Compliment on super use of the light; splendid detail and capturing a regal pose. Regards. Nico
