Lydia, Check out my msg in the Challenge part 2 thread regarding Koi Ponds

I have to say that I preferred the "floating" version. I'm not sure why, but it could be two things: First, the composition seemed better without the supports exiting the frame. Second, I liked the bizarre and mysterious nature of it just hanging there by itself. I guess it's hard to know what people will like, so you're better off going with your own gut on these things. I feel like I should be waiting to grab the ball once it comes down from the net :) Jim H.

Wonderful graphic shot, both versions! --mlynn

LOL, Aussie! You're too cute. ~Lydia
Canon DSLR Challenge10-Dec-2007 06:04
I'm fine with it. No, really I am. Its not like I had a huge emotional investment at all in that well conceived and executed idea of the floater. :)

Actually, I agree with your initial observation that it looked too fake, but it was interesting. --AussieDawg

Thanks Michael and Lee. I do like hearing both sides. But, I'll just leave it like this and we'll see how she goes. I've abused my woman's prerogative (to change her mind) enough already on this image. *grin* ~Lydia

I like this version. It looks like a photograph.

Sorry Lydia if I confuse the issue even further I prefer the "edited" version it has a surreal look, it made one think as to what is going on. After all a photograph particularly an art photograph need not necessarily be a reflection of reality at all times, often times it is not.

That being said I love picture in this version or the other. Main thing is you have created a picture that has captured our imagination and stimulated some debate. None of this takes anything away from your achievement, if anything it adds a lot.

Well done on a fabulous picture. - Michael

Ok... I'm so confused. *sigh* But now, the original one (my favorite, anyway) is back and the edited one is in Pending. ~ Lydia

Thanks, Trav. I felt the same way... it's just not 'real' enough, I think. I'll probably change it back to the original. I appreciate your 'bucking the system' and telling me honestly.

Thanks, Cat. You can say if you like the original better. *smile*

Tom, you're confusing me, too... but thanks! ~Lydia

Lydia, not to make life difficult for you, but I actually prefer the original, "Grounded," version...to me this looks like something just taken out of the shipping box and then photographed, rather than finding an interesting angle to shoot a common enough subject yet make it very interesting.

Hey, we all have different opinions. No Big, Traveller

Hmmm... interesting development here since I last saw this! Looks nice!

Nice clean & simple, clear shot.

Thanks, Pops, Lonnit and Bob. Ok, I'll leave it. ~Lydia

I love it this way! A floating basket! Nice work.
Canon DSLR Challenge04-Dec-2007 19:02
Didn't see the original, but I like it like this. Floating makes it interesting. ~ Lonnit

Great Lydia, don't worry about 'too much PS work' some of us do heaps more than that. Not everybody's 'cup of tea' but certainly in order unless the host specifically rules out post processing or specifies pp criteria.

I like it, gives the image a 'measure of intrigue'. Good post ~ Regards Melbob
Canon DSLR Challenge04-Dec-2007 15:46
The more I look at it... It doesn't appear as 'real' as it did with the support... like I plopped it down onto another background instead of this being the actual sky (which it is). What do you think? (Original entry in Pending) ~Lydia
Canon DSLR Challenge04-Dec-2007 15:31
How fun, Aussie! I did it. Do you like it? I think it's cool... but is it too much PP for the Challenge? I can put the supports back in... ~Lydia
Canon DSLR Challenge04-Dec-2007 04:24
Nice image Lydia. For kicks try cloning out the supports. The result is interesting.

Excellent. Simplicity rules! :-)

Excellent Lydia, LOVE this shot. The simplicity and the red of the hoop really attract the eye. Cheers, Vikas.

Lydia, FWIW, I like this one better than the earlier version. - Kelly
Canon DSLR Challenge01-Dec-2007 02:20
Thanks, Cat. I've put it back to the original now. Thanks. Please don't wait for an invitation from me (if you were) to do a basketball goal as your entry. Help yourself. *smile* ~Lydia

Nice graphic image. I too was thinking on doing something with a Basket ball basket.
I would prefer some blue in the sky, at least enough to make the white net, the top and side borders of the rim to stand out from the background.
Hope this helps.
-Cat
Canon DSLR Challenge01-Dec-2007 01:47
Thank you, Kelly. I lightened the blue of the sky until it's almost white. Do you think it was a mistake? ~Lydia
Canon DSLR Challenge01-Dec-2007 01:33
Nicely seen Lydia - Kelly
