Bird Furniture

Black Forest, CO

This is what's in the "well feathered nest" of a House Wren. Note the snakeskin, hair, small feathers, striped blue and neutral plastic strip, straw and sticks. We found these abandoned eggs (7) in a nest box that we were cleaning for this new year's hatch (hoping there is one). We love to have House Wrens around cuz they eat insects, preferrably spiders and sing a beautiful song. Unfortunately, our house cat caught this mother Wren before she could hatch these eggs. We put a bell on his collar and a coyote got him. Oh, well, ... life and death in the forest.

Thanks for the comments, y'all.
Nico - Yah, well I usta be a city-boy, grew up there, but now thank God I'm a country boy. Its a lot different; I might write a book about it one day ";^)
Bob - Well, in this case the coyote was the winner...and, no, llamas don't eat spiders. They do step on 'em every once in a while, tho. You'd be surprised about their singing. I've one that sounds like a whale song every morning when he first sees us. Its a high-pitched humm that he varies up and down. He's wanting a drink from the hose. A hose-water freak, he is.
Elena - Yah, it is sad. We were especially sad when the cat brought in the little Wren. They're so "thoughtful" to bring in their catches for us to praise them over. Once, one brought in a bat. It had the bat's body in its mouth and the wings were wrapped around its face. Funniest thing to see! We made the cat drop the bat and it flew around in the house for an hour until we could catch it and put it out, ha!
Cheers, -mikey

Terrific Mikey, love your story as well, it really makes one empathise with the capture.

One just cannot win it seems?

Do Llama eat spiders? .... Even if they did, I know they don't sing as well as those little wrens? Such a shame? ~ Regards Melbob

Great story to go with the photograph, Michael! You guys see and experience a side of life completele "foreign" to the city-dwelling folks. Regards jnconradie
