OK traveller - I'll delete my previous comments now that you've read them (might consider an easier way to talk to you. lol)

I've already critiqued the image personally with Sarah and she did what she always does - ignore me :). I don't tend to offer meaningful critiques in here because I don't know how sensitive people are.

As to why Sarah and not me - well the short answer is she lives on the beach and I live in the mountains :). Oh yeah, our styles - Sarah prefers to set things up, I prefer to find things. I like a lot of what she does and every now and then attempt to emulate (this is a classic Sarah that I actually did -http://www.pbase.com/cslr_challenge/image/56534310 - as I mentioned in our conversation under it. See what happens when I emulate her? I win the challenge. lol

take care, Cindy

Hi Cindy, I don't think anyone has any issues about Sarah participating in the Challenges. Heck, I don't even care if you vote for each others work as long as it is based on on honest believe that the work is good.

I also feel that people can get toooooooo sensitive over this. You are very good, but Sarah is...well, Sarah is Sarah. You guys are different people with very different styles.

Sarah is also less chatty than you and I...as is her right. But her work is also often ambiguious, lending itself to differing interpretations....I was just curious what she thought.

Heck, what might be interesting is what you think of this image?

This is not something you would conceive of or shoot, at least I don't think so. No disrespect intended, but the fascinating question is why Sarah and not you?

Just having fun....don't worry about it.

Best Wishes, Traveller

Ohmygosh....I can just see you carring all this down to the beach! I love it! I bet that beach is near me!

Well, I do have a curious Nature...and I sensed the connection when I first saw these posted...but I let it slip away, as in those waves.

Obviously I came back to the question.

A major talent, Sarah is, that's all.

Still, I can well understand why Mom would be proud as all get out.

(Oh, and I sincerely thought that people were having the wrong take on this image...so I had to speak up).

Best Wishes, traveller (who's bones and heart are, like magic, well known by Michael...lol)

You might enjoy seeing Sarah's 1st Place from STF Challenge 40 in April of 2003. It has withstood the test of time and remains one of my all time favorite images:

P.S. While Cindy is "mom", I'm merely a major fan without familial relation.

Sarah, naw, it doesn't present a problem. Traveller, if I may speak about him in front of his back, has a wonderous sense of discovery. He was enjoying the discovery in his post, merely that, especially that, and nothing more. He'll want to see more from you, I know it in my bones, as will I. -Michael

Thanks everyone for your comments. When I took the picture, I wasn't really going for humor, more of an eeriness and I tend to really like the natural and the unnatural thrown together...however, after I took it, the caption that always springs to mind for me is "I wish I bent at the waist!" So I suppose it is sort of funny. Traveller, yes, I am someone's daughter. More specifically, I am Cindy D's (I think her screen name on DPReview is Sis-Q) daughter...hopefully that doesn't present a problem.

well she has a better camera than her mom, maybe that is the confusing part ;)
Canon DSLR Challenge30-Apr-2007 01:52
You know, Sarah, I post here for discretion...fewer people will see this...but I am suspecting that you are someone's daughter...which is, of course, per force true...but someone here's daughter...

The camera and lens are wrong, but I've been checking a little...and I still think it's true.

No big, I still love your work.

Sarah, I'm not sure that I'm seeing the humor that everyone else seems to be seeing. For me, this is...profoundly something...This is what a Material Girl...gets...ends up...or finally finds what she really always wanted.

I may be reading too much into to this...what was your intention?

Best Wishes, Traveller

Hope this is not a 'self portrait' Sarah.... we have only just met, what would my mum say? ... lol!

Like the humour in this... ~ Regards Melbob

I'm generally not keen on contrived elements within "scapes", but having said that I like this one because of the humour. :)

Love this one too. I'll leave it at that {smile}. -Michael
