Oh yes, "skewedness" must be a word, it's just too delicious not to be word. -Michael

Thanks all for your comments. Traveller, you weren't too critical at all, that's what the challenges are for, yes? I do have versions with the horizon level, as well as with the chair facing the water and facing into the frame... but I sort of thought the skewedness (if that's a word) of everything created a haunting feeling which I enjoyed.

Sarah: I hope you don't think that I was being overly critical in my initial comment...actually I was defending your artistic choices, but maybe wanted to understand them better.

I must add also that as a Title maven, no one seems to be doing the literate, deep kind of titles that you have put on both images. Kudos for being smart...lol

Best Wishes, Traveller

The chair goes well with the surrounding color. There are so many footsteps on that sand, it's likely the entire neighborhood is now using the chair as a resting spot :-)
The horizon... I'm sorry, a crooked horizon for me is like a crooked paiting on the wall.
When I visit my doctor office, the staff expects that if ANY framed images are crooked that day, that Mark is most definately going to automatically straighten them!! LOL. I like the second image with the "naked lady", which adds humor and a human element to the image. Thank you for sharing these with us! Markjay

My mind goes back to Sharon, and the carrying of her red chair up the hill. I can only imagine what others (if there were any onlookers around) would have thought was going on here when you were setting up this scene! :-)

Perfect composition and nice subdued colours. I think it all works together rather nicely. (I like this one more than the one the mannequin.) Compliments and regards jnconradie

Nice composition Sarah, I like the rolling waves and the clouds, they do disguise the horizon tilt and work well together.

That looks like a 'classy' piece of furniture.... do you usually take everything AND... the kitchen sink when you visit the beach? (lol) ~ Regards Melbob

What a great chair! really like the whimsy touch. You picked an excellent day and time for the shot. I did find the unlevel horizon line a bit odd at first but as Michael says, the shore line does help even it out. And now that I look at it again, the uneven horizon adds to the whimsy concept here. If you'd like to touch up the horizon? it can be easily done by selecting a rectangle, starting from the shoreline going across the whole width of the shot and up to the sky. Then just have a go with the Transform tool. It might create a slight gap wich can be easily cloned out.

btw, you might want to convert this one to a sRGB color profile. It loses some of it's color saturation when viewed through the internet browser.

Sarah, nice to have you submitting in the challenge. So many things in this image appeal to me. The moody weather of the day and your handling of the overall tonality is perfect. The rich color of the chair a lovely counterpoint to the environment. Nice patterns and lines created by footsteps in the sand, sea foam, edge of the water, breaking waves, horizon, clouds. It's a fabulous piece.

Traveller, I think the breaking waves on the beach form a pseudo horizon and allow it to feel totally natural that the actual horizon is not level.

My secretary and I really like this....going all out, aren't you?...lol. I also like the manquin one....though this is probably my favoirtite. I may, or may not, have wished that the horizon were straightened, but, because of the position of the chair, I'm not sure that it can be done now.

If you put the chair on the beach, and went to this trouble, I presume that you shot at least 20 versions...true? Therefore you wanted the sky akilter to throw people off more, yes? Best Wishes, Traveller
