OH NO! How did I miss this in the vote? I wanted to vote for it! I even had a vote leftover, which I spent on the icon b/c I could not select a 5th. I surely would have voted this as my 1st or 2nd choice!!!! GRRRRRRRR! Maybe the thumbnail was broken when I voted? ~ Lonnit

Looks very surreal to me. From the thumbnail, I thought that object behind the chair was a Hershey's Kiss! He he. I find your image fascinating, I've come back to visit it twice now! Thanks for sharing this interesting image. Markjay

Another great image Elena and your explanation really makes one empathise with this capture. It certainly tells a story. I like the TV tube which is very symbolic of how we discard things and move on. Great post ~ Regards Melbob

Thank you very much for all your comments!!!!!!!!!Elena
Canon DSLR Challenge23-Apr-2007 18:14
Thanks for the insight. Now it makes sense. As I said earlier, I was missing the context. If it is meant to tell a story, I was not getting in it just from the picture, and hence my observation. Do tell us how you progress with the book. Would love to know.

This image is very symbolic (about the Island )....
The tube is junk from the old days and left behind...(This is apart from composition and interesting shape)
The ship is the present ( most important for wellbeing of the people on the Island.(Tourism is #1 industry on the Bahamas))
And boy (of course) is the future....Sorry, can't explain better...
P.S.It will make a book about Island past ( in 70s ).
Glamorous homeowners resort (realized and failed with time) and after that drug trafficking place for local people.....(I am not the one to write it)-Elena

Another outstanding image from Elena! ( I so enjoy them.) I see you don't need your paint brushes to create unique pics and I agree with the rest that the placement of the elements is perfect. Will you send some of those attractive little models up to Connecticut? LOL shu
Canon DSLR Challenge23-Apr-2007 16:08
That is exactly my point. I thought so.
Would love to know how/what the tube means in this photo or what it represents/symbolizes.

O NO, NO, NO...!
This tube is essential for this image (for me).-Elena
Canon DSLR Challenge23-Apr-2007 15:27
Mostly agree with all previous comments.
What appeals to me most is the angle of the shot of the boy as compared to the horizon and the ship in the background. Placing him high like that right in the middle of the image gives a big uplift and confidence boost to the esteem and his dreams. As if he is dreaming big, and has the show of calm and confidence to acheive it.

I am going to differ with the previous remarks about the tube. It might be just my opinion here but, I don't think it is contributing to this photo in any way. Unless there is a context with the history of the boy or for that tube to be there which Elena is trying to portray here, it is not needed. In the overall serenity of the photo, I see the tube as a distraction and disconnected with the lofty aim of the boy the photo is portraying, IMHO.

Very Very nice shot, love the mood in this one, the composition, the way the tv tube is behind the boy and the way he is gazing onto the ship. Cheers, Vikas.

Elena: Thanks for clearing that up. I was viewing the "large" version, not the original. (And PBase compression is brutal.) It suddenly got a lot better now.

Great colours and definitely a captivating photograph with a lot to ponder upon. I am no word-artist, so a great title suggestion is not easy for me to come up with. What about "Better than CRT, Better than Flatscreen" ... or something along such lines. Perhaps too long. Compliments and regards jnconradie

The Title is not quite right....Any suggestions?
Thank you.

I started a new project about Island glamorous past (among other things)
and was taking photos in old, "dead" hotel on Sugar Beach.
(Lots of interesting junk there.Thank you for telling me what this "thing" was).
The ship is on it's daily way to Coco Cay (and was really there later on that day)
where most of the people from the Island are working.
This boy have to take care of his two younger siblings all day yesterday (2.5 and 5) .Tough work for a little boy!!!
I liked image also without the ship but it gives more meaning to the picture.
And boy is not particularly waiting for that ship...It is more about past, future, present.....all this things...

Each person's mileage will vary, but this really appeals to my sensibilities. I love it. I have no idea why there is a television tube sitting behind this young gent, but it doesn't matter...it's there and adds significantly to the image. I quite often can't explain my own images so I won't hold anyone to explaining their imagry.

I did get a quick glimpse of the first upload without the ship. Honestly, while the ship does give focus to the title, I don't think the ship is needed. I don't feel a need to know what he is waiting for. In fact, I rather enjoyed the mystery of the waiting. Either way, Elena, it's a great piece. -Michael

lol...thanks, Kiki, that surprises me...I would note however that the young man now seems to be at least vaguely contemplating the cruise ship....whereas before he wasn't

It is interesting how moving the ship around makes this kind of substantial difference...and this is maybe why she has moved it again.

She is a craftsman, that Elena.

Intriguing journey.. In the first upload, the ship wasn't even there ;)
Very heavy compression btw.. the file is only 50KB. (150 is max limit)

Actually, Lonnit, I am reasonably sure that the ship has moved....and I probably prefered it in its original position. But I could be mis-remembering. Traveller

Intriguing image Elena, and Well done! CJ

Super image. Very commercial and clean. Love the ship! Was it actually there? It looks a little PS. :) ~ Lonnit

This is really nice.

It does look a little bright on my monitor, but that could be just me.

Well done and great capture of the boat just in the right spot.

Elena, I also knew that this was your's without opening the image...strong composition, great colors, the odd cruise ship in the distance, the CRT tube...uniquely yours. You aren't gonna give us a moments rest, are you?

I had something in my mind's eye involving ducks...I'll still do it...but I do know when to bow to a superior talent.

Fantabulous image by you.

Oh, and Spuh see ba for the Russian links. Excellent work there also.

Best Wishes, Traveller
