James and the Giant Peach is a truly wonderful book, Lee. And Melanie was right, illustration on the front of the dust jacket of the original edition, the one illustrated by Nancy Ekholm Burkert, is of a giant peach with a tree wrapped around it something like my photo. If only my photo had the softness of line and the subtle colors of Burkert's illustrations, now that would be something! I love her work. ~Sharon

James and the Giant Peach was one of my favorite books as a kid. My mom used to read it to me many times.

Thanks so much for posting your shot, Lee, and the tutorial! I think we may see a rash of these turning up in the galleries for a while! It will be fun to see what other people come up with for their "planets"! Thanks for your kind words, Lee, shu and Melanie! I'll have to go look at my copy of James and the Giant Peach, I suspect you are right, Melanie, there does seem to be a correlation with James. ~Sharon

This is a fun one! For some reason it makes me think of 'James and the Giant Peach', or something like that. --Melanie

Thanks for the tutorial! Now I want to go out and find a good scene so that I might try this technique. Loved the other ones in your gallery too! CJ

Stunning, but it's the photographer's vision that must get the most credit and certainly the applied technique is very well done. You have done it again, Sharon! You are head and shoulders right up there with the best on this site. Congrats on this beauty! shu

Thanks, Cat and Tom! Lee, could you post a link to the image you did and the mini-tutorial that I seem to remember you doing in the forum thread? It was your marvelous image that inspired me to try my hand at this. Thanks! ~Sharon

You guys are just too smart for me! I am glad you like it. I have either Lee or Cat to thank for the inspiration to try this. I haven't gone to look for it but one of them posted an image with a smaller tree in an earlier challenge. Just for comparison you can see the original image herehttp://www.pbase.com/elips/image/77128062. There are a couple of other polar coordinate images in that same gallery. Thanks so much for your kind comments! Do I get to join the group?! ~Sharon

This is great. I love it. The look of how that little "plot of ground" represents the entire world, and the way it's embraced by the tree is just fantastic. Wow! Jim H.

Sharon, are you the wannabe having a ball with that fisheye lens and Photoshop? It looks like the same area as where the red chair was taken. This is a very good and fun image! :-) CJ

Superb! Perhaps not in everyone's taste, but this example is so clean, clear, elegant, graphical that it has instant eye-appeal - well, to me at least. It looks kind of "organic", as if the tree is growing from some type of bulb. Compliments! jnconradie
