Minimalism works, just fill in the blank with your imagination. Lovely work. Sam Attal

This, Melanie, is nothing less than a portrait of God mourning the death of art. A lucky snapshot, if I may say so myself.

Heh heh. Figures it would be a Kiki. When I first saw it I thought it was the back of an old framed print or something. Very clever, it looks like things I've seen in galleries.

So: "But this is all secrets... What you see here is a fairly simple statement about artists and the status quo of art. It's really very simple stuff, it just took me 48 years to find it lol." Please, tell me tell me tell me...I'm getting close to 47, and it's all still secrets to me... [art, I mean--well, life too-- and other things]...

Well, Kiki, this works very well, found or not. You put together a thoughtful beauty.
Best wishes, T

lol Traveller.

This is the story, but don't tell anyone: It's a "readymade" located outdoors, the back of a low roadsign of some kind. I studied it while waiting for a bus, and took a few shots with this challenge in mind. Returning a week later, it looked just the same but now it was raining. That was perfect.. a canvas needs some juice. So I kneeled before it and got my picture.

You can see it has been used repeatedly... someone obviously hangs up posters there, and someone (someone *else*, I imagine) repeatedly takes them down again. Construction and deconstruction, it's a tiny battlefield. And I have no idea what's on the other side of it. But this is all secrets... What you see here is a fairly simple statement about artists and the status quo of art. It's really very simple stuff, it just took me 48 years to find it lol. If I had to title it I guess it would be "Ochres, white and water". But No Title is better.

I would have never guessed that this was you Kiki...but since it is a superior image and conceptualization...maybe I should have knowed that it came from such a cultured and refined person such as yourself...;)

Be that as it may, how did you get the...spray drops of water (?) on the borders?

Or was it already there?

Best Wishes, Traveller

Gerry: Sorry, but your rebate period just expired.

CJ: Correct :) I assume my writing gave me away.. I blame the UFOs! I was about to explain the image btw, but it turned into a whole darn essay.. spanning from Plato to post-modernistic constructivism lol. So I trashed it. Clears the mind anyway.

I just love connoisseurs, when you can fool them by adding red food colouring to white wine then it makes my day!

If you need an explanation to understand an image then it didn't work in the first place! I find intellectualism in art out of place, art should be able to be enjoyed by everyone and that means the basic product must be attractive.

People may disagree but, hey, that's life!

For me this has the same artistic merit as a neatly formed pile of bricks or a can of Campbell's Soup. Well done! :)
