Burning Through

Golden Gate Bridge, SF

To the human eye the sun was just a bright spot in the fog.
This is what I got when developing the RAW with little tweaking.
Thought it was amazing how the blue of the sky came through so
distinctly when there was no visible sky in human perception.

Focal Length 195 mm
Exposure Time 1/800 sec
Aperture f/20
ISO Equivalent 100
Exposure Bias -2

Thanks for the feedback guys :) Melbob I think some of the 'wow' factor in many images is when the photographer uses the camera to capture something out of sync with human perception. People complain about dynamic range not being as extended as the human eye - which is true. But we can use it to go beyond the capability of our eyes in time, space, perception, FOV, exposure, even wavelength (ie IR). This image is subtle, and I wasn't sure what I would get - although I underexposed trying to get the outline of the sun, I was pleasantly surprised to get the blue through the fog. Thanks for your observations! Cindy

PS - I love the GG too - a magical place - you've probably seen some of these in past challenges, but here are some more for you if you would like another visit without the expense ;) http://www.pbase.com/cindyd/san_francisco

Cindy, I must admit I have passed by this image a number of times and finally stopped and taken a peek! A few lines , a circle and a smudge.... then the penny drops! I can appreciate your statement here. How incredible 'mother nature' is!

This brings back pleasant memories of the GG Bridge, the fog and the magnificant vista ot SF Bay. I was fortunate to spend a few days there in '99 and loved it.

Such a simple capture but very atmospheric. ~ Regards Melbob.

Beautiful... dream-like... you did a great job in the RAW post-processing to achieve this outcome. Perfect composition! Regards jnconradie

Beautiful. Feels like a Japanese print to me. Ann C
