Oh, wonderful, Michael! Thanks for the detailed reply - I learned a whole lot from you (as many times before.) Miniature lights... not something I have ever given any thought to before. If I may ask one more question, please: did you have to buy/rent all the goodies, or where the kind enough to lend it to you, or is this at some museum or art exhibition? Compliments yet again! Regards ~jnconradie

Thanks all. Nico...what, where, how? LOL! The whole scene is in miniature scale, one inch to the foot. The pieces are created by some of the finest miniature artisans working today. Professor Dumbledore is but 6 inches tall and sculpted by doll artisan Todd Krueger in Wisconsin. The phoenix created by animal sculptor Annie Willis in the UK. The books and scrolls by Colorado artisan Ericka Van Horn.

The trick I've found in photographing miniatures is to use miniature lights. Photographic flashes and full-size lights are meant for full-size people and scenes. Using miniature spotlights with very tiny beams of light, one can model the scene in the same way as one would model a full-scale scene. Of course, the burst of light at the top of the wizard's staff is pure Photoshop. -Michael

Michael, I have to say I also suspected that some major masterpiece was still under construction in the Puff studio. And I was not disappointed! Pray, do tell: how, what, where? What is real and what is not? What is life-size and what is not? Where did you take this? Marvellously done. Compliments and regards ~jnconradie
