Victor, this was taken in the basement of the Louvre. Most definitely Egyptian. The mask with the mascara lines that look like glasses is a good sign but is not obvious at this angle. What surprised me was the condition of the weave on the face. I don't know much about quilts but it seems the American Log Cabin design you refer to must have had some influence from Egypt. ~kt

Here's a link to an article talking about the origin of the Log Cabin quilt pattern, possibly tracing it back to Egypt.

Patterns. The pattern weave on the face looks like the American Log Cabin quilt pattern. It also looks a bit like something the Seminole Indians might have done. Looking at the textile piece covering the mummy, it looks like it could come from the Cuna (sometimes Kuna) Indians (San Blas Islands), but it also looks similar to the story quilts that the Hmong create.

I'm fascinated by the weave pattern of the cloth strips over the face. And then I notice the additional face next to it. Where was this taken, by the way? For some reason my first reaction was South America, but I really have no reason to believe that is correct. The patterns on the cloth at right seem African, but the face on the right doesn't seem African at all. The face looks very European, but I don't think anything else does. I guess I'm revealing my ignorance here. -- Victor

At long term rest, that's for sure. Still, a very nice image. Interesting. Best Wishes, Traveller
