I haven't been following the developing thread about what's 'wrong' with the way this shot is processed but I DO think that it's very nicely composed and the colours are lovely and warm. One observation though: the focus on the window seems much sharper than on the wall and it's not a DOF thing either. Not sure why. But I like it anyway. Tim A

WOW Victor, I like the "blue corn" version the most :-)))
I have to get this set of actions, they seem to treat the color blotches well
Canon DSLR Challenge28-Feb-2006 19:11
By the way, I highly recommend the DSLR Tools action set. It is available here.

sigh - well blurring it - makes it looked smudged when the process is pretty heavy - i've seen it before, as I'm sure you have too. Cindy

I'm not sure what you mean by smearing stuff around. Neatimage doesn't function by moving pixels around. By the way, I took DSLR Tools color blotch reduction action and applied it to this image. The result is here.

I also performed a difference and expanded the levels so you can see what I'm talking about.

Victor I think it is the neat image smearing stuff around. That was what threw me a little the first time I viewed this image - how blurry the background was compared to the light. Makes for an interesting abstract. Cindy

The noise I'm talking about is the large color splotches. -- Victor
alexeig28-Feb-2006 09:43
Well, I did neatimaged it so maybe Neatimage was more effective on the frame than on the wall. However, I do not see much noise on the wall either, not at this size. Originally it was quite noisy though
Canon DSLR Challenge28-Feb-2006 00:11
Certainly. But how do you explain the absence of noise not only on the light (which is light) but also on its frame (which is dark)? That's the great puzzlement to me. -- Victor
alexeig27-Feb-2006 12:43
Victor, this is not a composite. Bur, at ISO1600 some noise is bound to surface
Victor Engel27-Feb-2006 03:46
I have to say I just don't get it. As Cindy says, the light looks very sharp and noiseless. Everything else, though, looks like a picture of noise. When I first saw the picture, I thought it was a composite. But perhaps the noise look is just dirt patterns. -- Victor

Really odd mix of the sharp and modern light with the blurry old and dirty wall - artistic! I wonder if you sepia-toned just the wall if that would be an interesting variation. Cindy
