Nuke Tunnel *

Nr Green Valley, Az.

This is a shot taken from the control room door of a nuclear missile silo, taken looking towards the missile itself. Note the tunnel is suspended by giant shock absorbers.

Taken at Titan II Missile Museum, near Tucson Az. Well worth a visit.

Thanks for the comments. The hardest part about taking this shot was getting in the centre of the tunnel. The camera here is about 4ft off the ground to give equal perspective to the ceiling and floor, also it's roughly lined up with the bars connecting the vertical and curved walls on the left, this was to preserve the shape down the tunnel. An earlier attempt at head height looked rubbish. -- Richard

Wow. Cool shot! I'd love to visit that someday. In Wyoming, we've got a lot of missile silos. A guy near Cheyenne bought one of them and uses it for his home and as a precision machine shop. The temperature stays so stable that he is able to machine parts with fantastic repeatability and accuracy. I've always wanted to have one of these sites as my home. Think of all the room you'd have to set up a studio. And you could play the stereo as loud as you want any time ;) Jim H.
