Sky sculpture
by Richard Hopkins

Winchester

This is a sculpture in the grounds of Winchester Cathedral in the form of an obelisk. Each 'rivit' is actually a mount for a light and at night the sculpture glows and changes colour.

Original view for a straight up shot, love the cloud reflection the sculpture's surface allows. I see some potential issue with the slight off-horizontal line at the bottom, so if you can adjust for lens distortion and the slight rotation, that would make it perfect!

This is, indeed, very striking! I keep coming back to it. The only thing that might make it better would be greater DOF so that the whole . . . whatever it is . . . is in focus. Still, it is ethereal and yet very solid at the same time. Nice!

Impressive image to say the least. I can't get a sense of the scale . . .I think that might add to the image - giving it some unknown that leaves you thinking. Cindy

Nice shot. Looks like the cathedral is worth a visit for the statue along. Must pay it a visit sometime.

Yes, Richard, I think your adjustments have really added significant punch which appeals to me. -Michael

Thanks for the tips. Here's a version with added contrast and sharpening as suggested. Better? -- Richard

The cloudy sky reflections really do make the image. (*) I agree with alexeig that the image could use a bit more punch. A local contrast adjustment (unsharp mask of 15%, 50, 0) did it for me. Nicely seen. -Michael

Absolute fantastic reflections. * I would add a little bit of contrast

I hear "Thus Spake Zarathustra" in the background! This is really monumental, a beautifully done shot! ~Sharon
