Cat,

Thanks for the explanation. It helps, but not in the way you may think. I think the thing you're talking about is called a mantle (or mantel). My confusion was that I thought it was clipped hair. I suppose your explanation might fit that scenario, too, but it works better with the mantle. -- Victor

Thanks Andy and Victor -Cat
Andy, nothing like that... just exploring some ideas :)
Victor, I was dreading that someone is going to ask this question. I believe music is a personal experience for every individual. Two can share same taste in music, but their choices may be different. So... how does one related the said music to this photo? You see... I was tring to portay an essence of the "spirit" to live on even when other's have put it down, destroyed it or gave up on it. There are several songs which come close to this, but not exactly what I want to say (listed below and may be I should put the description back in as I had it intially) Here are some songs I think fit perfectly for this photo:
1. Illegitimus Non Carborundum from www.mccmusic.com/inc.htm
2. I won't give up Deborah Cox
3. Google: State of Revolution > Fight Forever > I Wont Give Up
http://www.google.com/musics?lid=N_OCznx9PxN&aid=oLo8ehG25H&sid=auHSLXOe_9K
4. Stayin' Alive.
5. My heart will go on of Titanic fame.
6. I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
and many more...

Metaphysical outlook...(well, an attempt anyway):
You see, life is an "amazing" power. It will find a way to survive, after everyone thinks its gone, when experts have said its "dead", and the fire marshall has declared the fire as put out. And that's what this photo tries to capture, the sprit which wants to live on.
In reality, this photo is of the top portion of a tikki lamp and what you see is the wick... well whatever was left of it anyway... rest of it is all rotten/burnt/broken away... someone tried to pull some fibers out of it at one point, unsuccessfully. So the few strands which came out remained in there, survived and took the shape of the flame. I see this as the will to survive, will to stay alive, won't give up, determination, what ever you call it. The sprit to live on and be alive is so strong that it emancipates itself from what we are used to seeing after you put out the flame on the tikki. This flame will not give up or go away so easily. It will be back. If not as a flame of fire then as something else... Its "stayin' alive" .... the sprit lives on ...

Hope this gibberish makes sense to you... and all.

I like the picture, but I don't understand how it relates to the song. I'm afraid this is going to be a theme for me this challenge. -- Victor

Very delicate subject Cat. Lacks your usual flair but I know this is just a prelude. ;0)
