Dear Nancy: This is entirely a matter of taste....I really like the cropped version...lol.

But what do I know? You're the artist and I concede that choosing the best crop is one of the most difficult tasks you'll ever face. Though I disagree, (which I am allowed to do), I think that the advice given by Jeannie is even more correct, "Trust Yourself."
Best Wishes,
Traveller

Hi Jeannie, I think I'm going to take your advice and just leave it as-is. I like the bits that are reflected at the top-- it feels like they make the whole more interesting. For what it's worth, I really didn't chop anything off of the bottom of the cropped sample. I think it just got vertically compressed. Next time I'll just link samples to my gallery. Thanks for your help! --Nancy

Hey Nancy, you may have seen from posts on one of my pictures that I've been going through the same dilemma as you -- to crop or not. I tried some of the suggestions, but in the end picked the one I liked best. This was the advice given to me & I think it works for you as well.

Try cropping -- although I think you ended up cropping from the bottom as well, you lost some of that beautiful green color :( -- & if YOU don't care for it as much, then keep to your first instinct.

It's a beautiful picture either way!! -- Jeannie (jburly)

Jeannie and Traveller, I actually debated cropping some of the top and in the end decided I liked the extra texture that part added to the whole. I'm reluctant to add an image inline here in the comments, but I think it's important to see the two at the same time. After seeing them, if you still think I should use the cropped version then that's what I'll do. Thank you for your kind comments. (note: I only cropped to the bottom of the rock at the top)

I agree with Traveller. Removing a little bit off the top would really help. This picture is just beautiful!! It does look so much like a painting. Great job, odigi!! - Jeannie Burleson (jburly)

Odigi, this is lovely. I might prefer taking about 20% off the top in a little tighter crop, but that's just me. This is a painting in water, impressionism at its best.

Best Wishes,
