Lake Michigan* by Grant Hamilton

This was really my only shot at getting something in for the challenge but the light just didn't happen this morning. So I went for something a little more abstract. I didn't have a neutral density filter that would allow me to have a long exposure so this a composite of 10 exposures stacked.

The jpeg compression was not kind to the sand and the grain. Here is a link to a less compressed version:

Thanks for the compliments. PLease have a look at the less compressed version. I think it is significantly more detailed.

Cindy- I stacked the images with the bottom one at 100% and the next at 80% and then 60% and so on. I had to play with the order of them a little to get the effect I liked and then I flattened it and ran some curves and added a little grain.

Olaf- The color version was pretty lackluster (crummy light) but I'm pretty happy with this result since it matches fairly closely with what I was envisioning when I shot the image.

Very unusual and strking. So this is a way of blurring the water because each exposure has different waves? And what blending mode/opacitiy did you use? Cindy

Bootiful, I mean Bewtiful or should that be spelled slightly differently? The stacking really worked as the lighting in this shot is super! - not bad for a ahot taken at a time when the lighting did not want to cooperate! Smart idea - I would not have thought of this technique to compensate for lack of ND-filters. Wonder what it looked like in color?
