Thank you Ed and Alexeig. Ed, interesting thing that; I thought it might look better leaning into the frame also, so I created an image by adding sky to the right (and cropping the excess on the left) where it did just that. But for some reason I still prefer this one, as the other version just seemed less interesting to me(it seemed more static or something). But maybe it's just me... --Melanie

I like shots like this very much. (*) Perhaps an alternate shot where the tree leans into the frame? -Ed Hahn

Cool shot. This shot inspired me to take a few of my own of this style today.

Thank you Michael. I went ahead and cropped out the little branches on the left. I wish I'd thought of the polarizer while I was there (I think I had one with me). I just got out of the habit of using a polarizer with my 828, as it always seemed a bit like overkill. (The skies tend to come out a nice dark blue with that camera without a polarizer.) If anyone thinks it is cropped too tight and is just plain uninteresting, please let me know. Melanie

I really like that hole in the tree but I find the branches a bit distracting. Did you use a polarizer for this shot? If not, it may provide you with more details and a darker sky. ;)
