Doesn't matter what the deal was, what matters is that now the rest of us can appreciate what you were getting to enjoy. :) ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, I have to admit that I can't tell much difference between the face in this image and the face in the original image. I don't know whether it's my eyes, my monitor, or maybe I just knew what it was supposed to look like and my brain was compensating. Regardless, thanks for your suggestions. --- Kenneth

Yes! His face is much clearer now! Phew... glad we figured that one out. It's so much easier to appreciate the shot now. I knew it was in there somewhere. :) ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, in order to reduce the amount of jpeg compression and still stay within the size limits, I had to significantly reduce the size of the image. Did this help? -- Kenneth

It does look better. Can you up the file size any further? How's the original sized file? Does it look better than this one? It almost looks like his face is jay-pegging a bit. Looks more now like it's just a compression thing not an actual photo thing. ~ Lonnit

Yeah ... this was shot on Kodak Tri-X film and scanned directly from the negative. -- Kenneth

Yes I think that brings it back a little.
If you meant negative as in "real camera negative" than I can see why this happened.

Thanks, Lonnit and thubleau. I rescanned the negative, bumped up the contrast a little and darkened the image a little. Does this help? I think the problem is that he has white hair, white eyebrows, and rather long white fuzzy beard stubble which is making the face look "fuzzy." Additional suggestions welcome. -- Kenneth

I have to agree with Lonnit , there does appear to be something wrong in the facial area, perhaps the shutter speed was a little slow.

It's a great shot. There's something going on with his face though; a lack of contrast or something. It's not really your fault, I don't think. Seems he's got all white facial hair and probably lots of beard stubble and it's causing the loss of detail. It'd have to be selective addressed b/c the rest of the shot is just right. Nice job. ~ Lonnit
