The young girl in the foreground is the daughter of a bandmember. At this point she just couldn't sit still any longer and grabbed her friend to dance. Several other children followed her example and both the band and the audience fed off the energy. This single event transformed the entire evening.

I think this was the only photo that actually caught a "decisive moment" as the challenge required. This type of photography is not about technical perfection; it is about capturing a moment and a feeling. You did that very well. - bee1000

Yes, it was 1/10th of a second hand held with flash. By choosing AV mode, shooting with my 28-135 IS wide open and the flash set to second curtain synch, the flash takes on a support role allowing the predominat tungsten lighting to serve as key. A friend of mine was shooting with a 10d 70-200 f/2.8, second curtain synch but custom function 3 set to synch at 1/200th. His shots were sharper and he had more keepers, but I prefer the look of the slower shutter speed and weaker flash.

Excellent image! Some technical questions: with-flash? seems like very subdued flash... 1/10th s - hand held?
