What's important here is the message.....two generations linked. A bite from grandma's
apple (as I interpret it) is a wonderful symbol of love. Shu

Grant, I was not offended, just a little unnerved. The beauty of doing what we do is that when we put on display our work, we are opened for variations of the story being told. If I remove myself enough to look at this as you see it, yea I completely get where you are coming from...It was my sincerest hope that if this image evoked any emotion at all, it would have been love. ( i know that sounds corny ) I feel that part of this story is the unconditional bond shared between my mother and daughter. I respectfully submit that opinion is part of the diversity of life.

bill- i absolutely did not mean to offend you. in the context that you describe it is totally innocent and i agree about the daughter/camera situation http://www.pbase.com/granthamilton/color). but i didn't have the benefit of the "back story." and i'm not saying that i dislike the image. it just kind of gives me the creeps. but so did the fact that i laughed at some things in "pulp fiction" or "american psycho" that were a little inappropriate. i still liked the movies. partly BECAUSE they pushed some buttons i didn't know i had. i like your postprocessing BTW.

Well Grant, I have to say in answer to who does that ( My mother giving my daughter a bite of an apple ) I do and we do! I take for granted that the content is natural to my environment, (The two most important people in my world are my mother and daughter) I submitt that for some such a display can be unnerving. I think in order to fully appreciate the shot you would have to take it in the context that i saw it. Wich was simple really, When I have my daughter, i always have my camera in hand. MY daughter was playing and and ran up to mom when she came outside with the apple, and simply asked, can i have a bite....after wich she promptly ran back to swing...

since we are discussing this (and it is a powerful thing to arouse so much emotion), the thing that made me start to wonder about the image was the fact that an older person was FEEDING an apple. who does that? that bit of wierdness seemed like it was representing coercion. and the rest flowed from that. still creeps me out though.

My god, I can't believe the comments on this innocent little snap... apples are wholesome, little girls are wholesome, so are blue skies with fluffy clouds. Is it the androgynous wrinkled hand? Were these "ageist comments after all? As a father of a 6 yr old girl I do keep a watchful eye - within sane limits.
Nice shot... cute daughter.

I must confess, my feelings about were similar to Grant's. I didn't think about the apple representing sin, but the low perspective, the direction of the eyes as well as the darkish clouds did it (heeebie jeebies), I think... Maybe the title too - made me think of that fairy-tale where grandma is a wolf in disguise (Little Red Ridinghood???)? Anyways, the fact that it affects us emotionally is a sign of a strong image - see it as a complement! --Olaf

Pssss....Grant - snakes aren't deamons either! LOL! ;) Just kidding. This one could have many stories behind it, but I've got to say, I never would have come up with yours. Very interesting perspective. I love when other people come up with a viewpoint that is so vastly different than mine. Cool! It's what makes the world go round. :) ~ Lonnit

Wow Grant, now that you put it that way. I honestly would never have drawn that conclusion. I took this shot about noonish sunday, Mom was eating an apple and my daughter wanted a bite... i just happened to be there with the camera and thought that i could use it for this challenge.

visually interesting but the subject matter makes me vaguely uncomfortable...something about the apple representing sin and being fed to the little girl and her looking away...heeebie jeebies.
