Mother and Child
by Vikas

This was taken at a temporary camp set up by the Banjara tribe from the Indian state of Rajasthan. Banjaras are essentially very poor gypsies/nomads who move from place to place, setting up temporary camps (shelters). The women usually wear a fair amount of jewellery and vibrant coloured clothes. This mother was bonding with her baby and managed to get this shot....

Vikas,
Very moving image with fine detail. The white background is perfect for this image. Roberta

You do it again Vikas. How do you get your images so sharp?

A particularly stunning and moving image.

Ha Ha Ha...Ed, your comments made me laugh (in fact, am writing this with a big smile on my face); can just picture me now, walking around with a huge roll of white seamless paper along with two bulky stands to set it up, a tripod, huge camera bag, a couple of assistants to help set the whole thing up.... hmm, actually that doesn't sound too bad if I had help to do all this. :-) Will try and put up a colour version and give a link here.

Thanks Angela that is very kind of you.... Vikas

Great subject! So...you just happened to have a white seamless roll that you dropped behind them? :-) Seriously, (*) I'd love to see the original (colorful) image w/ background... Ed Hahn

Truly a stunner, Vikas, I knew it was yours as soon as I looked at it!!

Thanks Phyllis/Ann, appreciate your comments. I guess that the oversharpness was part due to me and part due to the level 6 jpg compression. Have adjusted it some and hope its better now. Cheers.... Vikas

Wonderful catch Vikas. I agree that it would be even better a bit softer. But just wonderful as is. I love the look on the mother's face. Ann C

Great photo! A bit oversharpened for my taste, but the composition and tone are excellent.
