I don't know if most people accept the concept of
love existing between animals. Some species form
pairs for life, and don't take a new partner if
one dies. If not you can always interpret this
picture as a symbolic reprersentation of love...

I have never seen a photo that captured a mallards head in such detail with such true colours like this shot before, well done....

Tammy, thank you very much for your comment! I've shot lots of mallard duck pictures and most of them are nothing much, but this one does strike a cord with me too. Perhaps we read too much human emotions into animal behaviour and expressions, but on the other hand we're animals too so why should it be that much different? Maybe animals are not very conscious about what they do, or have abstract thought like these, but they do to some extent seem to have feelings of joy and grief much as humans.

This is a fantastic photograph!! I absolutely love it. Awesome composition.
As an animal lover/owner, I can say first hand there is "love" between animals.
I mean there is even love between animal and thier human :) some say animals dont feel.
They got that idea out of a crackerjack box. I was supervisor for a few years at an animal shelter, those animals felt the anxiety, the fear, the warmth, the love. I see it in my horses, my dogs, my cats even as they all intermingle. But, I can say that there is no love between my two fish..LoL. Beautiful!!
