Filament *
by Victor Engel

Austin, TX

This is the tungsten filament of a halogen torchier lamp. Even at ISO 100, f/22 and 1/4000 sec. I had to dim the light considerably to avoid overexposure (and burning up my lens). I used USM to create the blue halo around the filament.

OK. The blue halo is done by using USM on the b channel in lab mode using a fairly large radius. I may fiddle with this some more, but I doubt I'll have the time to get it the way I want. -- Victor

I wish I had recorded my steps. Now I can't duplicate what I did. I was going to redo it with a slightly rotated crop, but I can't get the blue halo to work. I remember messing with levels, curves, USM, RGB-->Lab-->RGB, and saturation. I also did a fade at one point, I think right after a USM to the lightness channel in lab mode. I must have forgotten something, though. Oh well. -- Victor
