Valentines*
by Angela Johnson

I shot this for my 2/14/04 Photo A Day shot,
and come to find out that the theme this time is
Complementary Colors! I hope this shot is eligible.
Reds and greens mixing here.

Lighting was candle light and
painting with light with an ordinary flashlight
(on the rose, the plates, and a little bit of the ivy).

Only PS work was a slight gaussian blur and framing.
f11, 8 seconds, 33mm, ISO 100,

other sizes: small medium original auto

Olaf, Thank you for your kind words! For color I did a custom white balance on this one. The D60 doesn't have kelvin temperature settings, and I hardly ever shoot RAW, so I couldn't tell you what temp exactly this was ;) -- angela :)

Angela, I state in my "Colorful Shapes" shot that I've been inspired by your exclusive use of natural light, and then you chose to veer away from that policy! - But of course, LOL! Very nicely done! Still has that intangible "Angela-quality" to it. You did chose to put an asterisk in the title, so I'll be honest and say: almost too much, too romantic! I think it may be a matter of cultural differences, though. I know, when it comes to design anyway, Europeans often prefer simplicity more than do Americans... Still at awe with your lighting! - you've managed to balance the candle light so perfectly with the light painting!!! - must have taken a lot of trials, no? At what color temperature did you set the camera? --Olaf

Angela,
I like the diagonal placement of the candle lights with the edge of the table creating a slight diagonal in the opposite direction. Painting with light works very well. It looks very professional and you've done an excellent job! Roberta
