Sort of a general comments, but definitely applicable to this image:

It might only be me who thinks about these challenges as follows, but I wanted to share why I would personally vote for this (or this type) of image millions of times before I vote for the guitar pics I entered myself.

My thinking process is like this: I want the winning pic to be such that when the winning pics's thumbnail appears on the CSLR Challenges front page, and if a person who did not know what the Challenge topic was, is asked to guess the topic, he or she would be able (just from looking at the pic) guess correctly or at least close to the right challenge theme.

Take this image: what would the guesses be? Wood? Symmetry? Music? Musical Instruments? And I would bet money the word "Harmony" will also come up within the first 20 guesses max.

Now compare (as an example) with "Cool". What would a person have guessed the Challenge topic might have been? Blue? Light? Guitar? Sparks? Fire? Musical Instrument? and so on... the chances that the word "Harmony" would come up is pretty much zero / nil / nada. (In my opinion.)

My own person way of thinking is thus that "Yin Yang" would be a much better representation of this Challenge than, say, "Cool". I would prefer "Yin Yang" to sit on the front page, definitely NOT "Cool".

I hope I explained how I think about which should be the winning pic. I am not expecting everyone to agree or to think differently. But I would be interested in other opinions, if any.

Still think it is a great "Harmony" pic, Pops! Kind regards Nico

This is great Pops, I was thinking of the yin/yang idea and then I saw this and actually almost said a rude word to myself... along the lines of 'golly gosh' ... someone has beaten me to it?

Nice lighting and good composition and I just love your violin photographs, such rich colours and textures and just great works of Art.

Regards Bob

It's not just the style - I'm sure - the props (or subjects if you wish) play a large role in making us recognizing this as a PopsPhoto...

And here I am thinking, "I used my best violin and my worst violin for this shot, another dimension of yin and yang, perhaps I should re shoot it with a higher quality violin."

BTW, does that little blue pixel in the lower left bug anybody else as much as it bugs me. Now that I've mentioned it, it's all you see when you load this picture. Except that I've fixed it and its gone. LOL

Too true... but the compliment still stands: good enough to be winner!

Thanks Michael, Olaf & Nico.

I guess I have to admit that I've developed a style that is easily recognized. That can be a good or bad thing.

Many times in the past many years of participating in these challenges I've seen, "Game Over." and rarely has that prediction come true. And then you add your pictures to the challenge! We'll see.

Two thoughts entered my mind the moment I saw the thumbnail: first came "Pops, for sure!" and then came "OK, game over..." :-) Well done, Sir. Regards Nico

No doubt in my mind that this was a Pops! Impeccable capture! While I do see where the title came from, "96" is what I first saw.

Thanks for being he first to post in Eligible Pops. A lovely shot and ingeniously on topic for lots of reasons. Regards, Michael
