Just to demonstrate Lisa, I have posted a copy of a slightly smoothed out version in Pending, mind you this only took 10 minutes so you will get the idea of what could be done with a little more time spent on the image.

I don't think working with a macro lens should be necessary to bring out the wear and tear here. A little post-processing to this image could get you there. I do agree that making the yellow pop more would do this photo good. I played with the image for a minute and thought these two steps took the image in the right direction:

1. a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, saturation set to +20
2. a new Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer, contrast set to +20

The result is more saturated and with more contrast, than what I am usually comfortable with, but for this image the raw, rough and hard seems appropriate.

Ok Lisa , you asked for it.
Many many years ago when I first started in digital photography I came up with this great image which looked to me to be rather terrfic, it involved the use of a glass , but then someone gave me some good advice.

"Eric !! you need to clean the finger marks off the glass.!!"

That was it, I sat down and realised I had shot this with out taking enough care to get the shot right, the thing is with this image you need to have a near flawless piece of equipment unless you want to emphasize the scratchers and wear and tear, in which case I would have shot this with a macro lens and worked it over .
The colour needs to pop and the lighting needs to lift the colour ,hope this helps just a little

Umm...about that lippy and compact, don't have any, I am a natural beauty. ;) At the time of the photo the drill was hanging out in the living room on the sofa.

This photo was entered in the Tool challenge, and didn't score well, if at all. I was wondering why?
Would love some educational commentary.
Thanks,
Lisa Marie

Is this from your home Lisa, right next to the lippy and compact ?
