No animals were harmed or traumatised in the process. In fact, Maya thought this was enormous fun!

Thanks, Lisa!

In answer to your question as to how large they become: I think enormous just about sums it up - and as strong as a horse (just about).

In spite of the general lack of snow and ice, their is a vibrant community of breeders and enthusiasts in South Africa for Alaskan Malamute's ( the "Alaskan Malamute Breed & Working Club, South Africa" ) and even clubs for dryland "mushing" (see http://www.highveldsleddogclub.co.za/gallery.htm ). The breed does exceptionally well - even in Africa. (Maya is our family' second Malamute.)

Kind regards Nico

Oh my! It looks like you both had fun... Nico, this is a different side of you and I'm really enjoying it. How big do you expect your dog to get? And wait.... you live in South Africa and you have a snow-sled-pulling-Alaskan Malamute???

Thanks, everyone, I feel slightly overwhelmed by all the nice feedback... also those from old challenge friends like Vikas and Mr Puff. Thanks so much.

Just to explain a bit: I built a horizontal "platform" from wood for Maya to lie on her stomach. If you look carefully towards the right of her body, it is clear that her tail is extending over the far side of the toilet seat. The wide-angle lens had the obvious effect of making her head look very large and basically hiding her body somewhat, but she is lying very comfortably and horizontally enjoying all the attention. I used natural light so that she would not have to put up with a flash either. The vignetting was added afterwards.

For those interested in dog breeds, she is a 2-month old Alaskan Malamuth.

Kind regards Nico
