CSLR Challenge 118 -- Layered

Dear Fellow Challengers

I thought we could perhaps tackle a "technique" challenge, rather than a "topic" challenge this time around. I am sure you are all familiar with the compositional technique of layers or layering to create depth in photography. If not, googling these key words will provide numerous good reference within seconds.

For example:

- the image "Lone Pine Peak/ Mt. Whitney" on the web page

- a couple of paragraphs and examples on

- a short description and examples on

I have to confess that although I know of this technique, I rarely if ever consciously think of "foreground", "middle ground" and "background" when composing photographs.

So this is a real personal challenge for me as well, namely to create a photograph of anything whatsoever, but such that the photograph will be seen by other photographers as a superb example of a "layered" composition.

If you come across additional good reference material on this subject, please share this with us in the discussion forum.

Let's do layers... and let's have fun...

Welcome to Challenge 118.
