These are photos from a trip to eastern Ecuador January 8-23, 2005. The participants were Chris Sloan, Mert Sloan, Melinda Welton, and John Noel. The trip was arranged by Tropical Birding, and our guide (until Sacha Lodge) was Jose Illanes, who is a Quechua native of Amazonian Ecuador and an excellent birder and guide. We also had a driver (Darwin), who was a veteran driver of birding trips (which was a tremendous and unexpected benefit). At Sacha Lodge, where we spent the whole second week, our guide was Oscar Tapuy. Oscar is the head bird guide at Sacha, and he's a bit of a living legend (for reasons that became clear very quickly). Assisting Oscar as an apprentice bird guide was his nephew Pablo.
