Bus service have a long history and still serve as one of the most important public transport in Hong Kong. Daily jounerys on public transport in the city are accounted for 90%, making it the highest in the world.


By 2004, more than 630 bus routes and 6,300 buses are operated by five franchised bus companies in Hong Kong, and they provide nearly full coverage of the city. Most of the franchised buses in Hong Kong are double-deckers and all buses are equipped with the Octopus smart card payment system.
